Data rentention initiative

From 2006 EU member states had to store information on all citizens' phone and internet connections for a minimum of six months and at most twenty-four months. If the police in the member states demanded it, the information had to be shared. The court of justice of the European Union declared the directive invalid for violating fundamental rights.
